Hwa-gwan-mu Hwa-gwan-mu (Flower-Crown-Dance) is one of the oldest forms of court dances in Korea. Dancers are elegantly dressed in full court attire and wear crowns beautifully ornamented with beads of five different colors. They gracefully dance to slow rhythms, flapping their long, wide, colorful sleeves high in the air. Their grooming and movement enables us to look back at the nobilitv and beauty of court life of past dynasties. Anciently, the dancers were members of the royal art agencies and performed at banquets for the royal family and foreign envoys. One unique feature is that they dance in a rigid line while their bodies make relatively little movement from place to place. The dancers' unassuming, humble, and charming movements also characterize the dance. Its history spans some 2000 years from the Shilla Dynasty through the Koryo and Lee Dynasties. Young women from seven stakes including Gangseo, Seoul South,
Seoul East, Dongdaernun, Seoul North, Yeongdong, and Seoul will
greet the presidin¿ë officers who are visiting Korea with the Hwa-gwan-mu,
demonstrating Korean beauty and elegance. Their dance symbolizes
the Korean saints' heartfelt greeting to the livin¿ë prophet and
Church leaders and thanks for the blessings they have received.
