To Whom It May Concern:

     1878년 9월 30일 예수 그리스도 후기 성도 교회 제 148차 반연차 대회에서 교회의 제일회장단 제일 보좌인 엔 엘돈 태너 회장에 의하여 다음 사항이 제출되었다.

    On September 30, 1978, at the 148th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the following was presented by President N. Eldon Tanner, First Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church:

     금년 6월 초에 제일회장단은 신권과 성전 축복을 교회의 합당한 모든 남성 회원에게 주라는 계시를 스펜서 더블류 킴볼 회장이 받았음을 발표하였다. 킴볼 회장은 나에게 다음과 같은 사실을 이 대회에서 발표할 것을 부탁하였다. 거룩한 성전에 있는 성스러운 방에서 오랜 명상과 기도를 한 후에 그에게 임한 이 계시를 받고나서 그는 그것을 그의 보좌들에게 전하였으며, 보좌들은 이 계시를 받아들이고 승인하였다. 그러고 나서 그것은 십이사도 정원회에 전달되었고, 그들은 만장일치로 그것을 승인하였으며, 이어서 다른 모든 총관리 역원들에게도 전달되었고, 그들도 역시 똑같이 만장일치로 그것을 승인하였다.

    In early June of this year, the First Presidency announced that a revelation had been received by President Spencer W. Kimball extending priesthood and temple blessings to all worthy male members of the Church. President Kimball has asked that I advise the conference that after he had received this revelation, which came to him after extended meditation and prayer in the sacred rooms of the holy temple, he presented it to his counselors, who accepted it and approved it. It was then presented to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who unanimously approved it, and was subsequently presented to all other General Authorities, who likewise approved it unanimously.

     킴볼 회장은 내가 지금 이 편지를 낭독할 것을 요청하였습니다.

    President Kimball has asked that I now read this letter:

전 세계에 있는 예수 그리스도 후기 성도 교회의 모든 총관리 및 지역 관리 신권 역원에게,

사랑하는 형제 여러분,

Dear Brethren:

     지상에서 주의 사업이 확장되고 있음을 보면서 우리는 많은 나라의 사람들이 회복된 복음의 메시지에 응답하여 점점 더 많은 사람이 교회에 가입하고 있는 데 대해 감사드려 왔습니다. 한편 이 사실은 우리에게 영감을 주어, 복음이 주는 모든 특권과 축복을 합당한 교회 회원 모두에게 주고자 하는 소망을 품게 하여 주었습니다.

     하나님의 영원하신 계획 중에 언젠가는 합당한 우리의 형제 모두가 신권을 받게 되리라고 우리 전에 있었던 교회의 선지자들과 회장들이 한 약속을 알기 때문에, 신권이 유보되어 온 사람들의 충실함을 보고서, 우리는 이들 우리의 충실한 형제들을 위하여 오랫동안 간절히 탄원하였고, 성전의 다락방에서 많은 시간을 보내며 주께 간구하며 하나님의 인도를 구하였습니다.

     주께서는 우리의 기도를 들으시고 교회 안에 있는 모든 충실하고 합당한 남자가 거룩한 신권과 함께 그 하나님의 권세를 행사할 수 있는 권능을 받고 자기의 사랑하는 이들과 함께 성전의 축복을 포함하여 거기에서 비롯되는 모든 축복을 누릴 수 있는 오래 전부터 약속된 그 날이 바야흐로 이르렀음을 계시로써 확인해 주셨습니다. 따라서 교회의 모든 합당한 남성 회원은 인종이나 피부색에 관계없이 신권에 성임될 수 있습니다. 신권 지도자들은 아론 신권이나 멜기세덱 신권에 성임될 모든 후보자들을 주의 깊게 접견하여 그들이 합당성에 대하여 이미 수립되어 있는 표준을 충족시키고 있는지 확인하는 정책을 따라주시기 바랍니다.

    He has heard our prayers, and by revelation has confirmed that the long-promised day has come when every faithful, worthy man in the Church may receive the holy priesthood, with power to exercise its divine authority, and enjoy with his loved ones every blessing that flows therefrom, including the blessings of the temple. Accordingly, all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color. Priesthood leaders are instructed to follow the policy of carefully interviewing all candidates for ordination to either the Aaronic or the Melchizedek Priesthood to insure that they meet the established standards for worthiness.

     우리는 주께서 그의 권세를 부여받은 종들의 음성에 귀를 기울이며 복음의 모든 축복을 받을 수 있도록 스스로를 준비할 온 세상에 있는 그의 모든 자녀들의 축복을 위한 그의 뜻을 이제 알게 하셨음을 엄숙히 선언하는 바입니다.

    We declare with soberness that the Lord has now made known his will for the blessing of all his children throughout the earth who will hearken to the voice of his authorized servants, and prepare themselves to receive every blessing of the gospel.

    스펜서 더블류 킴볼을 선지자, 선견자, 계시자요 예수 그리스도 후기 성도 교회의 회장으로 인정하여 우리는 율법을 비준할 권능이 있는 회중으로서 이 계시를 주의 말씀과 뜻으로 받아들일 것을 제의합니다. 지지하시는 분은 모두 오른 손을 들어 그 뜻을 표시해 주시기 바랍니다. 반대하시는 분이 계시면 같은 방법으로 표시해 주시기 바랍니다.

     표결에 의해서 위의 동의가 만장일치로 찬성되었다.
