"바다 항해 2001 행사"

    "Sea Trek 2001" 범선이 2002년 동계올림픽 개최지인 미국 유타주 솔트레이크에 정착한 유럽의 몰몬(후기성도) 85,000여명이 회복된 복음의 시온의 땅을 찾아 이주한 150주년을 기념하기 위하여  유럽의 항구를 출항하여 59일간의 항해를 계속, 미국 뉴욕항에 입항해서 기념식을 가졌다.
이를 기념하기 위한 대대적인 행사가 2001년 10월 4일부터 6일까지 뉴욕에서 개최되었다.

  유럽에서 미국으로 건너온 수만명의 후기성도들을 기념하기 위한 2개월간의 기념항해이다. 2001년 8월 7일에 1850년대의 그것을 재현한 범선 10척이 덴마크 에스버저그를 출항하여, 덴마크 코펜하겐, 스웨덴 그테보르그, 노르웨이 오슬로, 독일 함부르그, 영국 홀, 리버풀, 포츠머스, 카나리아 제도, 바하마 등에 기항한 후 10월 4일 뉴욕항에 입항하여 항해를 마친 것이다.

   배들이 기항할 몇몇 항구에서 축제 행사기 있었다. 항구에서의 축제 행사로 범선 투어, 불꽃 놀이, 후기성도(몰몬) 이민에 대한 해상 전시회, 컴퓨터 조상 연구시범, 역사 워크샵, 콘서트 등이 있었다. 콘서트를 위해 "바다위의 성도들"이란 음악 작품들이 후기성도 작곡가들에 의해 쓰여졌다.
   최종 축하 행사는 뉴욕 메디슨 스퀘어 가든에서 열렸다.

Sea Trek 2001 is an international public event organized by the Sea Trek Foundation, a Utah non-profit corporation, created to achieve a three-fold mission:

1. To promote public interest in and understanding of the history and faith of Latter-day Saints.

2. To honor our ancestors and our culturally diverse heritage.

3. To enhance social unity through activities, exhibits, forums, music, art, and worship.

The Sea Trek Foundation achieves its mission by organizing and funding public events that focus attention on the history, dedication, and faith of Latter-day Saints. The Foundation relies upon the generosity of financial donors, corporate sponsors, and volunteers to implement events such as Sea Trek 2001. A Board of Trustees manages the Foundation. An International Organizing Committee and an Advisory Board manage the Events. To contribute your time, talent, energies, financial or material resources, or suggestions.
